This was one of those paramotor flights that leave you completely fulfilled and awestruck at the beauty of a calm and misty morning. Only issue was I became separated from my LZ above the clouds. Thankfully I had my GPS and was able to get back home.
Everywhere is what you make of it. Des Moines has great stuff that would be cool anywhere. RAYGUN would be cool in any city. I will put our humor and style up against anyone in the country. Gong Fu Tea would be cool in any city. Same for Eden, for Seed, for Domestica, for Ichi Bike, for Zombie Burger. It’s not just “cool for Des Moines.”We need to stop worrying so much about national lists, about marketing campaigns, or about attracting outside businesses. We just need to support the talent we already have, and encourage talented people who are already here but not doing anything to do something. There is an ocean of untapped talent in Des Moines.
Another tasty bit of synth candy here in Central Iowa:

StacyZ and I made the long haul to Wooleys in DSM to see the Parlours play for their CD release party. We didn’t make it through the full set (baby exhaustion) but loved seeing them live. Their EP (with this track) were a large part of my Labor Day soundtrack. Thanks to DesMoinesIsNotBoring.com for featuring their new album and bringing the group to my attention!
I love that this history (pre-history) is being unearthed so close to home. I want to teach the kiddos to be excited about this type of news!
I had no idea this was in Iowa.
